Looking down Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, pedestrians, horse-drawn vehicles, and automobiles crowd the roadway between tall office buildings. Trinity Church's Gothic spire rises at the foot of the street, a landmark at Broadway and Wall Street. By 1912 the surrounding blocks held banks, brokerages, and offices, and the dense building canyon reflects the district's commercial growth.
