About this postcard
Looking west down Wall Street, the narrow canyon of early skyscrapers is closed by the brownstone Gothic spire of Trinity Church, with pedestrians and a few motor vehicles and wagons filling the street. Trinity Parish's third church, designed by Richard Upjohn and consecrated in 1846, stood at the head of Wall Street and was for decades the tallest structure in the city, a familiar landmark in views of the financial district. By the time this card was printed, office towers such as the ones flanking the street had long since risen above its 281-foot spire.
