About this postcard
The view looks through the Walls of Jericho, a window-like opening in the eroded red-orange rock of Cedar Breaks, with a pale gravel slope in the foreground and a single dark evergreen framed by the gap. Cedar Breaks is a high amphitheater on the Markagunt Plateau between Cedar City and Parowan in Iron County, southern Utah, cut into the Claron Formation limestones at elevations above 10,000 feet. Its pinnacles and arches became Cedar Breaks National Monument in 1933. The sender's note records a motor trip of about 3,000 miles by June 1, a long western tour of the kind that was becoming more common as roads and auto camping improved in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
