About this postcard
A street-level view north along Walnut Street from Third Street in downtown Cincinnati, with two green streetcars and scattered pedestrians in the roadway. Tall commercial blocks line both sides: a brick high-rise at left, a red-brick and buff-colored building in the middle distance, and a gray steel-framed skyscraper filling the right side. A faded painted sign for an S. Co. jeweler covers the side wall of the near brick building. Walnut Street was one of downtown Cincinnati's principal commercial thoroughfares in the first decade of the 1900s, lined with department stores, jewelers, and office buildings. Streetcars sharing the roadway with pedestrians and wagons were the ordinary way to move through the basin before the automobile took over.
