The Waltham Canoe Club boathouse stands on the bank of the Charles River, a large gambrel-roofed wooden building with a two-story veranda facing the water. An American flag and a white club burgee marked WCC fly from a flagpole, while a smaller boathouse and dock with canoes and a few figures sit to the left along the shore. Canoe clubs were popular on New England rivers in the early 1900s, and their boathouses served as docks, storage, and social gathering places for members.
