About this postcard

The Waltham Canoe Club clubhouse, a large gambrel-roofed wooden building with an open arched veranda and a covered entrance stairway, stands beside a river. An American flag flies from a tall pole at left, and a figure stands on the entrance steps. Canoe clubs were common in New England river towns in the early 1900s, serving as social and athletic centers for paddling, races, and outings.
