A three-story red brick high school with stone trim, an arched entry, and gabled rooflines, seen across a broad green lawn with a tall flagpole at left. A second brick school building stands behind it to the left under a blue sky with light clouds.
Waltham was a mill town on the Charles River, known in this period for the Waltham Watch Company and its textile and watch factories, which drew a large and growing population. A substantial brick high school of this kind was a point of civic pride for such an industrial city.
