Waltham Watch Factory, rear view, Waltham, MA, circa 1905

About this postcard

The rear of the Waltham Watch Factory rises behind a fence along the Charles River, a long five-story brick complex with adjoining wings, towers, and a tall smokestack. The buildings and smokestack reflect in the water in the foreground under a pale sunset sky. The Waltham Watch Company was one of the nation's leading watch manufacturers, and the works fronted nearly 800 feet on Crescent Street while the rear overlooked the Charles. The company had spent several million dollars on the plant since the first building went up in 1853, and its astronomical equipment was considered equal to any in the world.
