The Waltham Watch Works complex stands beside the Charles River, with a tall smokestack and several mill buildings reflected in the water. A marshy foreground of green vegetation frames the industrial view.
The sender's note calls Waltham the Watch City because of its watch factories and names this plant the most famous, adding that the other factory in town is not as large. The Waltham Watch Company helped establish American mass production of watches, and by the early twentieth century the city's name was closely tied to precision watchmaking.
