About this postcard

A stone memorial arch with iron gates spans the entrance drive to the campus of Western Maryland College, flanked by clipped hedges, lawns and large shade trees. The card names it the Ward Memorial Arch, the gateway to the college founded in Westminster in 1867 as one of the first coeducational colleges in Maryland. The institution, long associated with the Methodist Protestant Church, was renamed McDaniel College in 2002, and the arch remains a campus landmark.
