The Washington Monument rises above a screen of trees, with a pond or basin in the foreground reflecting the foliage and a small pavilion on the near shore. The obelisk, completed in 1884 and standing 555 feet tall, was then the tallest structure in the world and remains the dominant landmark of the National Mall; the water and boathouse setting suggests the Tidal Basin or the nearby Potomac shoreline as seen from a park path. The card reproduces a tinted halftone photograph of the monument.
