Washington statue, Supreme Court Room, Philadelphia, 1907

Card type

About this postcard

Interior of the former State Supreme Court Room in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, with portraits of the chief justices, a raised bench, and William Rush's wooden statue of George Washington at right. Rush was a Philadelphia carver and sculptor who served in the Revolution; the caption identifies him as one of Washington's staff officers and calls the figure the only statue of Washington made from life. The room preserves the civic setting where the Pennsylvania Supreme Court once met.
