About this postcard

A tall white obelisk, the Waterman Monument, rises from a stepped granite base decorated with a carved eagle and shield, flanked by two cannons and approached by a paved walkway with low red-brown walls. An American flag flies at left, and the National Memorial Arch is visible on the distant ridge. The monument stands in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, the site of the Continental Army's winter encampment of 1777–78, now preserved as a national historical park.
