An ornamental arch spans a downtown Denver street, its top lettered "WELCOME" and its inner curve "WELCOME TO DENVER." Pedestrians, horse-drawn vehicles, and a streetcar pass beneath it, with brick commercial blocks lining the street behind. Denver hosted the Democratic National Convention in 1908, and the arch served as a civic welcome; it stood downtown until the early 1930s. A note signed "Papa" mentions chocolate causing "high jinks" in Arvada, a town northwest of Denver.
