The view looks across the west bend of the Kankakee River near Kankakee, Illinois, where two small figures stand in the shallow, slow-moving water while wooded banks and a few red-roofed houses line the far shore. The Kankakee River rises in northern Indiana and flows westward through Illinois to join the Des Plaines River, and its broad, marshy bends were a familiar scenic subject for early twentieth-century postcards of the region.
