West College and Old College, Knoxville, TN, 1906

About this postcard

The view shows West College and Old College, two brick buildings on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville. West College is the long three-story block at left, with its name across the facade; Old College is the square building at right, topped by a small cupola marked "07." An open shed-like structure stands in the left foreground. The buildings were part of the university's early campus, from its years as East Tennessee University before the name changed to the University of Tennessee in 1879. The "07" on the cupola is a class numeral, a common way for colleges of the period to mark a graduating class.
