About this postcard
Looking down West Commerce Street, a horse-drawn wagon and a bicycle share the foreground with pedestrians in period dress. On the right, an arcaded bank building carries the name "THE SAN ANTONIO NATIONAL BANK" across its arch. The printed caption describes West Commerce as one of San Antonio's busiest streets, the business quarter that runs from Main Plaza and had been almost entirely rebuilt since 1860. In 1907 the street was a commercial corridor of banks, wholesale houses, and hotels near the Alamo and the San Antonio River, with wagons and streetcars still sharing the roadway before automobiles became common.
