About this postcard

The card reproduces a semicircular lunette painting titled "The Treaty of Watauga," captioned below as "The Cherokee Indians Selling Kentucky to the Transylvania Land Company." It shows Cherokee leaders and frontiersmen, including a figure in a fringed hunting shirt, gathered outdoors beside a river to negotiate the 1775 Treaty of Watauga, in which Cherokee leaders sold lands south of the Ohio River to Richard Henderson's Transylvania Land Company.
