About this postcard

The card reproduces a semicircular lunette painting captioned "West Lunette, the Treaty of Wataga" (the card's spelling of Watauga), with the subtitle "The Cherokee Indians Selling Kentucky to the Transylvania Land Company." It shows Cherokee leaders and frontiersmen, including a figure in a fringed hunting shirt, gathered outdoors beside a river to negotiate the 1775 Treaty of Watauga, in which Cherokee leaders sold lands south of the Ohio River to Richard Henderson's Transylvania Land Company. The scene is presented as a mural-like lunette with a white border.
