About this postcard

The picture looks west through the great limestone arch of Natural Bridge, Virginia, with Cedar Creek running through the gorge below and dense hardwood forest covering the surrounding slopes. The natural bridge, carved by Cedar Creek, rises roughly 215 feet and spans about 90 feet; a young George Washington is said to have surveyed it, and Thomas Jefferson once owned the land and built a small cabin nearby. Long operated as a resort attraction with a hotel and trails, the site is now a Virginia state park.
