About this postcard
The view looks across the churning Whirlpool Rapids of the Niagara River toward the steel arch railroad bridges spanning the gorge, with a train visible on the upper deck. The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge (originally the Niagara Cantilever/Upper Steel Arch crossing) carried the Michigan Central and New York Central trains between Niagara Falls, New York, and Ontario, and the site was a standard stop for early tourists viewing the rapids from the gorge rim. The dark, grainy halftone rendering is typical of inexpensive view cards of the period.
