A large white clapboard house with a wraparound porch and corner turret stands on an ivy-covered stone retaining wall above a sandy beach. A wooden pier or boardwalk runs across the foreground, and a group of children in bathing costumes stands on the sand. The scene reflects the summer-resort character of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where shore cottages and beachgoers drew seasonal visitors in the early 20th century.
