About this postcard
A studio photograph of a white lily in full bloom, its recurved petals marked with dark speckles and rising from a fan of narrow dark leaves. A second blossom is blurred at the left, and the image is signed "Sandison" in the negative at the lower right. The card carried an Easter invitation to a Sunday school program at 7:30 on Easter Sunday at West Advent Christian Church, at the corner of Broadway (written "Bdway" on the card) and Halleck in Bellingham, Washington. The lily's long association with Easter suited the message, and the program reflects the ordinary social life of a neighborhood congregation in the 1930s.
