A two-story clapboard house with green shutters, twin chimneys, and a columned side porch stands behind a wooden picket fence. Bare trees fill the yard, with neighboring houses at right. The printed caption reads "Whittiers Home," likely meaning Whittier's Home, in Amesbury, Massachusetts. This was the residence of poet John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892), who lived here from 1836 until his death and wrote much of his verse in the upstairs study. The house is preserved as a museum.
White border along the right edge; tinted lithographic color with visible screen texture; light scuffing and edge wear.
No postmark and no handwriting; undivided back with "THIS SIDE IS FOR THE ADDRESS" and a dotted address area. Imprint along left edge: The Hugh C. Leighton Co., Manufacturers, Portland, Me., U.S.A., printed in Frankfort o/Main, Germany. Light soiling and edge wear; front is a color lithograph view with a white border.
