A rocky, boulder-strewn slope rises through a stand of tall, mostly bare deciduous trees, with broken stone and leaf litter in the foreground. The caption names the spot Wild Cat Notch in the Blue Hills, a protected reservation of wooded hills and rocky ledges south of Boston. The Blue Hills Reservation was set aside in the 1890s, and by the early 1900s it was a familiar destination for walking and nature study.
