About this postcard

The Will Rogers Memorial, a stone tower on Cheyenne Mountain above Colorado Springs, stands behind a stone gateway and a curving wall. A parked automobile sits in the foreground. Also known as the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, the memorial was erected by Colorado Springs entrepreneur Spencer Penrose to honor humorist Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash. Completed in 1937, it overlooks the city and the Pikes Peak region, and the winding mountain highway that leads to it made the shrine a popular drive for visitors.
