About this postcard

A stone tower with a flagpole and small spire stands on a wooded slope of Cheyenne Mountain, a stone gateway and pillars in the foreground and the plains opening beyond. The tower is the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, completed in 1937 as Spencer Penrose's memorial to Will Rogers, the humorist killed in an Alaska plane crash two years earlier. Penrose, a mining magnate and resort builder, and his wife Julie are entombed in the shrine, which holds a carillon.
