About this postcard

A tall bronze figure of William Penn in colonial dress, wide-brimmed hat and long coat, stands on a cylindrical pedestal against a pastel sky. The 37-foot statue by Alexander Milne Calder was placed atop Philadelphia's City Hall tower in 1894, facing Penn's beloved Delaware River; the building itself, designed by John McArthur Jr., was the tallest structure in the city until 1987. The card isolates the statue, omitting the tower beneath it.
