About this postcard
A dirt road bends through dense green woods, a white wooden guardrail following the outer edge of the curve. Beyond the treeline, hills rise under a blue sky streaked with pink clouds. The printed caption names the spot as Mountainville, N.Y., a small hamlet in the town of Cornwall in Orange County, in the Hudson Highlands southwest of Newburgh. The card was mailed from nearby Cornwall in July 1927 with a short note, "Having a fine time," signed by the Connells and addressed to a Miss Hart in New York City. Roads like this one carried summer visitors into the highlands, where the hills and wooded slopes drew people out of the city for the season.
