About this postcard

A large windmill with a domed cap and four lattice sails stands beside a half-timbered building with a red tile roof. Flowering plants and tall yellow hollyhocks grow along the building's front. Solvang, in the Santa Ynez Valley, was founded by Danish immigrants in the early 20th century and styled its downtown after Danish village architecture, with windmills, half-timbering, bakeries, and gift shops. The sender's note calls it a Scandinavian town with tourist shops and "exceptional yummy cookies," a fitting description of the village's Danish-themed center.
