About this postcard
The Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison stands on the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona, its domed central block and columned wings seen from the grounds with two American flags flying. Completed in 1917 in granite to designs by George B. Post and Sons, it is the third capitol on the site. Daniel Chester French's gilded bronze figure "Wisconsin" crowns the dome, which the printed caption calls the second highest in the world at 300 feet, with a diameter of 107 feet and a 15½-foot statue. The caption also gives the dome's cost as $3,000,000 and the entire building at about $7,000,000. The capitol remains the tallest building in Madison.
