A view of the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, shown from the grounds with its domed central block, columned wings, and two American flags flying. The present building, the third capitol on the site, was completed in 1917 in granite to a design by George B. Post and Sons; its dome is crowned by the gilded bronze figure "Wisconsin" by Daniel Chester French. The capitol anchors the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona and remains the tallest building in the city.
