About this postcard
A circular stone-and-brick wishing well with a wide rim stands in a garden at Ramona's Marriage Place in Old Town San Diego. A rustic wooden rail fence and overhanging tree branches frame the well, flowering shrubs grow behind it, and a small wooden sign hangs from a tree at upper left. The site was promoted as the marriage place of Ramona and Alessandro from Helen Hunt Jackson's 1884 novel Ramona, and the historic adobe house and its grounds became a tourist attraction in Old Town. The well was presented as a source of good luck and secrets, part of the romantic lore that drew travelers to the site.
