Woman poling a boat along a garden canal, birthday greeting card, circa 1913

About this postcard

A softly colored illustration shows a woman in a long apron and bonnet standing in a small rowboat, poling it along a canal or stream bordered by clumps of yellow flowers. Behind her rise dense green trees, a white rustic arbor or footbridge, and a red-roofed house with a square tower, all beneath a blue sky with billowing clouds. The picture is a birthday greeting rather than a view card, issued with the ornate gold-lettered line "Best Birthday Wishes." John Winsch was a prolific American publisher of artist-designed greeting postcards in the early 1910s, and this design is copyright-dated 1913.
