Woman spinning wool, Black Forest, Germany, circa 1907

About this postcard

A woman in traditional dress sits at a spinning wheel in a rustic Black Forest room, drawing wool from a basket beside her. A large multi-pane window at left looks out on a farm, and clocks and a small picture hang on the wall. The scene shows household spinning as ordinary rural work; the wall clocks echo the Black Forest's long association with clockmaking.
