Flat-topped limestone bluffs and scattered cedars stand above Lake Taneycomo, with wooded Ozark hills across the water. The lake was formed in 1913 when Powersite Dam was completed on the White River and took its name from Taney County. By the 1920s Branson, at the lake's edge, was a summer stop for visitors touring the Ozarks. Bernice's brief message called the view typical Ozark scenery and said she might be home in about a month.
