Wooden barn with cupola, Connecticut, circa 1910

About this postcard

A large gable-roofed barn sheathed in vertical board-and-batten siding stands in bare winter light, a louvered wooden cupola set on the ridge above. A small square window, a doorway, and a dark wagon opening break the front and side walls, with leafless trees at the right. Cupolas of this kind vented the haymow and gave the ridge line a perch for a weathervane, a common feature on New England farm buildings of the period. The penciled "CONN." at the top of the card appears to be a dealer's identification of the state rather than a printed caption.
