About this postcard

A tall wooden lookout tower stands on a bare, rocky hilltop above Melrose, Massachusetts. A stone-and-rubble base with an arched doorway carries two open timber observation stages, topped by a small glazed cupola. Leafless trees and scrub cover the slope around it under a blank sky. Melrose was a suburban city a few miles north of Boston, and a tower on one of its rocky hills gave a wide view over the town and the country beyond. The writer, sending the card in April 1907, remarks that the tower is where someone spent an afternoon; the sentence is loosely written and the person is not named.
