Wounded World War I soldier and vision of his sweetheart, "Your Heart Will Call Me Home", London, circa 1916

About this postcard

A khaki-clad soldier lies slumped against sandbags beside a field gun, gazing upward at a hazy vision of himself in uniform gently holding a woman in a pink dress. The sentimental scene illustrates the song "Your Heart Will Call Me Home", whose verses are printed in a band across the lower part of the card. Such patriotic song-lyric postcards were widely sold in Britain during the First World War, when sheet-music publishers like J. H. Larway of Oxford Street licensed their titles for card reproduction.
