About this postcard
An elevated view looks down on a yacht basin at Elizabeth City, North Carolina, where a long wooden dock lined with moored motor cruisers and smaller boats juts into deep blue water; a shipyard with a marine railway and crane sits at the left, and lawns, trees and low buildings fill the foreground. Elizabeth City, on the Pasquotank River near the Albemarle Sound, was long a regional center for boatbuilding and for the Dismal Swamp Canal route of the Intracoastal Waterway, and its harbor and yards drew cruising yachtsmen through the mid-twentieth century.
