About this postcard

A red, steep-roofed clubhouse with a wide veranda and small launch sheds stands on pilings at the water's edge, while a small sloop with a white sail rides at anchor in the foreground; low hills and a pink-and-yellow sunset sky close the view. The card names the scene as the Burlington, Vermont yacht club and harbor on Lake Champlain. Burlington's waterfront on Lake Champlain became a summer sailing center in the late 19th century, and clubhouses of this pavilion type were common along the lake's broad bay before the harbor was redeveloped in the 20th century.
