The view looks down on a small alpine lake ringed by dense pine forest, with the Moffat Road line winding through the mountains above it. The printed caption names Yankee Doodle Lake and Moffat Road, the Denver, Northwestern and Pacific Railway route that crossed the Continental Divide at Rollins Pass. In 1908 the line was still an active route over the divide; the Moffat Tunnel replaced it in 1928. The card was mailed from Tolland, a stop on the route, and the sender wrote that the surrounding mountains were "just splendid."
