About this postcard
The view looks across the calm blue water of Yellowstone Lake toward a low, dark forested ridge on the far shore, with a rocky, pine-topped bank and a small sandy beach in the right foreground. The printed caption names the spot as West Thumb, the large bay on the lake's western side formed where a lava flow dammed the water. The card was issued by the Haynes studio, the official photographer and publisher at Yellowstone for decades, whose numbered views of the park circulated widely in the early 20th century.
