About this postcard

A tinted view looks down York Street in Newport, Kentucky, with a single trolley car approaching along the tracks between rows of brick commercial blocks, awnings, a street clock and a horse-drawn wagon at the curb. Signs for "L.C. Eisen Schmidt" (optician) and a "Cole" sign are legible on the right-hand buildings, and a few pedestrians stand on the sidewalks. Newport is a Ohio River city directly across from Cincinnati, and its downtown streets like York were lined with such late-19th-century business blocks served by the region's street railway system.
