About this postcard
A tinted view looks down York Street in Newport, Kentucky, as a single trolley car approaches on tracks laid between brick commercial blocks. Awnings shade the sidewalks, a street clock and a horse-drawn wagon sit at the curb, and a few pedestrians stand near storefronts. Signs for "L.C. Eisen Schmidt" (optician) and "Cole" are legible on the right-hand buildings. Newport sits on the Ohio River directly across from Cincinnati, and its downtown streets were lined with late-19th-century business blocks served by the region's street railway. The scene shows the everyday mix of foot traffic, delivery wagons, and trolleys that shaped a river city's commercial district in the early 1900s.
